11 - 1–2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
12 - 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
13 - 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
14 - Pinch of salt
15 - Pink gel food coloring

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
02 - In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
03 - Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until fully incorporated.
04 - In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
05 - Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
06 - Scoop dough using about 2 tablespoons per cookie, roll into balls, and place spaced apart on prepared baking sheets.
07 - Slightly flatten each dough ball with your palm or the bottom of a glass to create thick, round disks.
08 - Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are set and centers look just barely done. Do not overbake.
09 - Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
10 - In a medium bowl, beat butter until creamy.
11 - Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until smooth.
12 - Add almond extract, vanilla extract, salt, and 1 tablespoon milk or cream. Beat until fluffy. Add more milk as needed for spreadable consistency.
13 - Mix in a few drops of pink gel food coloring until desired color is reached.
14 - Once cookies are fully cooled, generously frost each cookie with the pink frosting. Let set before serving.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • The almond extract in the frosting creates this nostalgic bakery flavor you cant quite place but absolutely love
  • These cookies stay incredibly soft for days thanks to a precise ratio of butter to flour
  • The texture is somewhere between a sugar cookie and a cake, thick and pillowy without being dense
02 -
  • Overbaking is the enemy of soft sugar cookies so pull them from the oven when centers still look slightly underdone
  • Room temperature ingredients are nonnegotiable here cold butter will never cream properly and your cookies will be dense
  • Frosting warm cookies is a rookie mistake that makes the icing melt into a sad puddle so wait for complete cooling
03 -
  • Flatten your dough balls to exactly ½ inch thick for that signature Crumbl shape and texture
  • Sift your powdered sugar before making frosting to avoid any grainy lumps in the final product
